What fascinates you about the IT industry?

Technology drives the world. The ever-changing nature of this industry is exciting and challenging and there is always so much to learn! The impact of the technology is huge and omnipresent, it has always fascinated me. I am so happy to be a part of the change.

How did you get started in the world of IT?

I wrote my first "Hello World" sample code during school when I learned my first steps in coding. That’s it, I got hooked.

What challenges do you see for women in our industry in particular?

Gender should not matter at all. Hopefully one day this question becomes invalid. The industry was shaken up a long time ago and is already in the process of making the work environment more and more attractive and motivating for women. In my opinion, the IT industry lacks advertising and presence in childhood.

What do you wish for the future when it comes to women in IT?

If we want to see more women in IT now, then the growth should have happened 10 years earlier or even before that. But in the last decade you can see that people, companies and schools are working on this issue and we will see more results soon. The future is very bright.

What advice would you give to young people who are undecided whether IT is right for them?

Just give it a go. Like any profession: some days are hard and some days are easy. Don’t give up even if you experienced failures. Try other areas in IT, it honestly has so much to offer. I am sure there is something out there that matches your passion and values.

Do you have a special tip for girls who are thinking about a job in the world of IT?

In the beginning IT can may be overwhelming and you have to put in some work. But the industry makes sure that beginners are properly onboarded and well taken care of. The industry encourages you and will give you all the support and incentives you need.
